Chapter 2
What I have learned about Spiritual Warfare
~ Be wise as serpents yet innocent as doves. ~
Matthew 10:16
As a Christian I am ashamed to say this...but at times, we can be very foolish to learn the truth about fighting unseen forces. The sobering truth is that there is a war going on for your very soul. The forces of light and the forces of darkness in the invisible sphere around us are fighting on a spirit-to-spirit level. I really wish I had known that at an early level in Christ. I just could not fathom or grasp my true identity and my God-given authority as a soldier of the King...
I have had to learn some very hard lessons since 1982...I can remember being very naive about the spiritual realm. It can be very difficult when you did not know that living life could be so brutal and that we have to fight to maintain our deliverance. Some days are better than others, but if you do not get the overall picture of who you are in Christ, you are in for a very brutal awakening!
Without the fight there would be no such thing as victory! Let this reality set into your mind...There is a war going on for your soul in the invisible realm. You can sit back, and the devil will run all over you or you can stand up and fight for your very life. The choice is really up to you. You have to know that God has made great plans for you as an overcomer. He wants you to be a warrior. The victory is in your hands. You can either wake up fighting or you can wallow in self-pity. See, the devil has a little book too. The title of it is "Every Excuse!"
Our sinful nature tends to look for any and every excuse to not engage in spiritual warfare. There is no such thing as riding the fence. You are either serving God or the devil! There is no gray area in this life you are either going to hell or heaven...no middle ground folks. It's your choice though ultimately.
Every born-again believer has an obligation, if you have truly made Jesus your Lord and Master to serve Him with all we are. It is way more than dressing up and going to church every Sunday.
We can fall at times, but we must learn to get back up and contend for the faith! God and His angels will help us, but we have to make a firm decision to stand firm. Jesus got the ultimate victory for your soul. But as long as we are alive, there will be an intense struggle going down.
What I have learned about spiritual warfare is that it is way more than waking up and saying a nice little prayer to start the day. It is way more than going throughout the day with your head buried in the sand. We have a true spiritual enemy which is the devil. We have to take a stand against him and let him know we mean business! It may be getting in the trenches with the sword of the Spirit in your hand! There are no excuses saints! We must learn to appropriate and apply the Word of GOD. That is how you use your sword.
It was not an easy lesson for me to learn. but I can tell you this much I am stronger today for my mental setbacks. I had to learn some very tough but valuable lessons. You know what? I have not arrived. I know that to remain humble God gives more grace! I just wanted to relay this message to you, if you are a believer. Do not give the devil an inch...You have got the authority to get complete victory! Thank the Lord Jesus!!
